About
I’m Kevin Gibson, a National Master from London, Ontario, Canada. I’ve been playing chess for over 25 years, and I’m passionate about sharing this wonderful game with others.
I taught myself chess as a child using a dollar-store chess book and a chess set that I made from paper and markers. After winning my first tournament with a perfect score, I was hooked! Since then, I’ve represented Team Canada on the world stage, earned the National Master title at 17, and became an 8-time London City Chess Champion.
Today, I enjoy teaching chess to students of a variety of ages and skill levels. Whether you’re just starting out or are an experienced tournament player, my goal is to help you develop your skills while fostering a lasting love and dedication to the game.
Services
Personalized Chess Coaching
I offer lessons in a variety of formats, including in-person, online, individual or group classes. Students will commit to a minimum of 6 sessions at a time.
Beginner Lessons
Individual & Partner Coaching
Choose individual coaching or pair up with another player. Engage in personalized sessions designed to master the fundamentals of chess. Areas of focus include critical opening concepts, checkmating combinations, must-know endgames, and elementary tactics. Recommended if unrated or ELO rating is below 1000.
$50/hr for individual lessons
$60/hr for partner lessons
Group Classes
Learn Together
Join a summer group class to learn chess in a collaborative training environment and hone your skills as you play against your peers. These sessions are perfect for families looking to grow a love for the game together. You will learn the most essential skills needed to be successful at a beginner level. All ages and skill levels welcome!

Advanced Tournament Preparation
Get Ready to Compete
Tournament preparation provides focused and specialized training to help players excel in competitive settings. Areas of focus include advanced opening repertoire, positional and tactical middlegame concepts, and a deeper knowledge of endgame. Recommended if ELO rating is above 1000.

Learn from Anywhere
Study chess from from the comfort of your home!
Online lessons are conducting on a video platform using chess.com's teaching interface. These lessons are available for all levels, with options for beginner studies and advanced tournament preparation.
Beginner: $50/hr
Tournament Preparation: $60/hr
